Discover What’s So Cool About Chinese Medicine

Chinese medicine has fascinated me since the early years of my medical career. After more than 32 years of practicing both Chinese and Western medicine, I’ve seen how this ancient system reveals hidden truths about our health—truths that even the most advanced tests cannot always explain.

At its core, Chinese medicine is based on the principle that we are made up of energy. That energy flows through our bodies in specific patterns, and when it’s disrupted, problems occur. This perspective provides a whole new way of understanding symptoms that might seem mysterious from a Western viewpoint.

One of the most important things I teach is how to listen to your body. In Chinese medicine, each organ has roles that go beyond physical functions:

  • Liver: Regulates the smooth flow of energy, menstrual cycles, and the emotion of anger.
  • Kidneys: Influence the low back, knees, bones, fear, hearing, and willpower.
  • Heart and Lungs: Carry emotional and energetic meanings as well as physical roles.

By recognizing these connections, you can begin to see how emotions, energy, and physical health are deeply intertwined.

I’ve witnessed remarkable examples of this. A patient’s scar on the small intestine meridian contributed to digestive problems years after her surgery. Another patient’s childhood head injury became the hidden cause of decades of pain and difficulty concentrating. When addressed through acupuncture and energy work, these long-standing issues began to heal.

What I find so inspiring is the way Chinese medicine layers with functional medicine. Together, they allow us to dig deeper, uncovering the root causes of health conditions and offering more complete healing.

Final Thoughts

Chinese medicine reminds us that our bodies are wise, and learning to listen to them can change the course of our health. As I often say, Your body has a story to tell—Chinese medicine helps you listen.”
