Acupressure for Hormonal Balance: Simple Techniques You Can Try at Home

Spending time outdoors and connecting with nature is an important practice for overall health. Our bodies are part of the earth, and being outside among plants and the natural environment helps promote balance and well-being.

One effective way to support hormonal health involves the use of acupressure points located around the knees. These points are particularly useful for women experiencing premenstrual symptoms, menstrual cramps, or perimenopausal discomfort.

Key Acupressure Points Around the Knees

There are four main acupressure points near the knees that can help balance hormones:

  1. Spleen 9 Point (Inside of the Knee)
To find this point, place your index finger on the inside of your ankle and slide it upward along the bone until you feel a small catch where your finger naturally stops. This area may feel tender. It is known as a spleen 9 point and supports hormonal balance as well as digestion.
  2. Gallbladder 34 Point (Outside of the Knee)
Using your fourth finger, slide it up along the outer aspect from your ankle. This point is located where the fibula bone meets the knee joint and is also associated with hormone support.
  3. Spleen 10 (Above the Knee)
When you hold your knee with your hand, your thumb will rest just above the knee on the inner side (see picture) . This is spleen 10, a point especially helpful for easing premenstrual tension and cramps.
  4. Stomach 36 Point (Beside the Tibial Crest)
With the middle finger positioned next to the bone on the front of your lower leg, just below the knee, (see picture) you reach a stomach-related point that helps with blood production and hormone support.

How to Use These Points

You can massage these areas gently on both knees, particularly during the week before your period if you experience premenstrual or perimenopausal symptoms. Exact placement is not required; simply massaging around the knees can be effective in supporting your hormonal health and reducing cramps.

Practical Benefits

Regular stimulation of these points is commonly practiced in acupuncture treatments to help balance hormones.Massaging these areas can provide relief from symptoms such as menstrual cramps and PMS, offering a natural way to support your body’s hormonal function.

In addition to acupressure, spending time outdoors and connecting with nature enhances your well-being by fostering a sense of balance between your body and the earth.
